Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson Both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, she enrolled in the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma was aware she would like to be an actress and for a number of years she was a student at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied performing and singing. She had already performed in a variety of Stagecoach and school productions by the time she was 10 years old. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) was the movie version of J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was filmed for first time in 1999. Emma was discovered through Emma's Oxford Theater instructor. After eight auditions consistently, producer David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast as the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut film coincided with the release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). This film was 2001's highest grossing film, breaking records during the opening day as well as the first weekend. Critics have praised both the film as well as the performances by the three main young actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her performance. Emma's performance received nominations and later won awards in the film.
